Hello All,
Several weeks ago, we sent out info regarding the initial concept of a project that some members had proposed. A description and loose time frame of the project was also outlined. You were asked to collect any materials that you may want to share as part of this project. Organizers of this project are ready to move forward with the next steps.
The time has come to start actually formalizing our collection of materials that you will share for
The Sewickley Area Italian Heritage Archive Project.
These are suggested items to share as per our first email. If possible, all materials offered should include as many names and dates that identify the items. The material we are hoping you will share can be any of the following but not limited to:
- Pictures – personal are ok. But school, church, social gatherings and the like would be great.
- Old film
- Videos
- Newspaper clippings
- Obituaries
- Birth announcements
- Wedding/engagement announcements
- Naturalization papers
- Citizenship papers
- Ellis Island info
- Ship manifests
- Fraternal association documents
- Church records – Baptism, confirmation, marriage
- Military veteran info/pics
- Area merchants and businesses operated by our ancestors past and present.
We are suggesting that you bring in your materials on any of the following three dates:
Saturday, April 2, 2022. 1-4 PM
Saturday, April 30, 2022. 1-4 PM
Saturday, May 21, 2022. 1-4 PM
Location: Sewickley Sons of Italy, 432 Division St., Sewickley, PA 15143
Initially, our plan was to digitize material the day we received it. This plan has been altered. We will amass a collection of materials and then digitize once we see how much material we have collected. This is the most cost-effective method of getting our material digitized. We ask that you bring in your materials on the dates above OR bring in your materials any time the Club is open for business and your items will be safely stored. We will have a collection box stationed at the SOI in Sewickley for safe keeping.
Please have the materials labeled and identified. Put materials in a large zip-lock bag. Label the bag with your name, phone number and email address on it.
Once we get a bunch of materials, we will then send out to be digitized. Materials will be returned to us and then you can retrieve them. This whole process will be ongoing and we anticipate collecting materials for several months
Electronic submission of materials.
We are excited to announce that we have secured an online site specifically dedicated to this project. This will allow us to save all of our memories in one place and it will give us all the ability to access and share as well. We will be able to identify the photos and documents and add descriptions and dates too.
In order to begin the process and submit your materials, you will need to take the following steps:
